An interesting way to grow your email list

email

I came across an interesting way to grow your list the other day. Personally, I’m not in the business of gaining a bazillion subscribers — I prefer to work with a few select clients at a time, and my list reflects that — but I figured some of you might be, so I’m passing this on to you.

It’s pretty straightforward: create a hyper-targeted giveaway that ties in with a particular blog post, then place call to actions at the beginning, middle and end of your post, prompting readers for their email in exchange for the giveaway.

For example, if you’re a health + fitness startup, you could write about the benefits of drinking protein shakes in the morning, and ask visitors for their email in exchange for a PDF download of your favorite shake recipe.

Of course, you need to make sure some other things are in place, too. Be clear that you’re adding them to your email list. Make sure you enable a double opt-in. Perhaps use a lead pages service to cover your bases… but that’s about the gist of it.

This fella went from 0 to 5,000 subscribers in a relatively short amount of time. I’m thinkin’ if it worked for him…
